We’ve Cracked Easter Weekend

Posted on 31st January 2018

Heading to Bristol for Easter and don’t know where to start? Whether you’re bringing the whole family or having a long weekend just to yourself, we’ve got all the best events to fill up your weekend for an egg-cellent trip!

Friday Afternoon:

Make your Friday a Good one and start off your bank holiday by booking a ferry trip down the river for Bands at Beese’s. Opened in 1846 and placed in a quaint woodland area by the River Avon, Beese’s Riverside Bar is the hidden gem of Bristol. On Friday nights they offer a boat trip from the iconic Bristol harbour all the way to the Bar, where food and drink is on offer as well as a live band. The 30th of March kicks off the 2018 season, so it’s promised to be a fabulous night – perfect to start off Easter Weekend.

Saturday:

There’s something for everyone on Saturday in Bristol. After enjoying a free breakfast at one of our Clifton hotels, why not take the whole family on a day trip to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre? You can spend the day hunting for hidden ducks around the grounds and escape the bustle of the city. There’s plenty to do to fill up your day and you save 10% by booking your tickets online.

If you prefer sea dwellers to swans, take a visit to Bristol Aquarium. With all sorts of activities and things to learn (as well as their exciting Sharks in the City attraction), the Aquarium is an ideal place to spend your Saturday.

If taking a peaceful Saturday stroll takes your fancy, make sure you drop into Bristol University Botanic Garden to see the Easter Sculpture Festival. For one weekend only, some of the most incredible sculptures from the area will be on display against the quaint backdrop of the gardens. With free entry for students and children under 18, this is the perfect spot to relax for the afternoon to escape the busy city centre.

Sunday:

Sundays are for family, relaxing and (at Easter) eating as much chocolate as possible! Have a leisurely breakfast at your hotel followed by a tour along the harbour side on Bristol’s The Matthew. A recreation of John Cabot’s 1497 ship, take a trip on a piece of the city’s history and make this Easter Sunday memorable. The friendly crew means that this is a trip that’s great for everyone! Take a look at times and tickets here.

Go straight from your boat trip to the harbour side museum M-Shed. Easter Weekend is the penultimate weekend of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 exhibition and it is not one to be missed. As well as all the stunning photos from this exhibition, M-Shed is also home to different and fun exhibitions about the history of Bristol, so it’s the perfect place for the whole family to spend an afternoon.

If art is more your style, then head up Park Street to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, where the new Grayson Perry: The Vanity of Small Differences exhibition opens over Easter Weekend. Bristol Museum is filled with interesting exhibitions and artefacts from all over the world, so everyone will be happy. Whether it’s the Ancient Egyptians, dinosaurs, galleries or even taxidermy, a wander around the Museum is the perfect Sunday pastime.

Monday:

Still haven’t got enough of Bristol? Staying for the whole bank holiday? Stroll down through the centre of Bristol to the incredible We The Curious. Unique to Bristol, the centre is filled with science, new things to learn, experiments and even a planetarium! The space exhibitions and activities in particular are definitely worth a peek and the different experiments are ideal for any age! Focusing on what makes you curious, there’s never a dull moment. Find out more about tickets and opening times here.

If you’re more of a foodie, take a trip to Wapping Wharf and take part in their Easter Trail. You’ll love all the unique spots for lunch or a well-earned coffee break, and the egg-citing trail means that you can get a prize for cracking the code! In an area that is full of independent and unique Bristol businesses, it’s the perfect way to finish off your long weekend in the city.
