Gender Pay Gap Report 2024
Quarter is a community of hospitality businesses in Bristol that collectively employ more than 250 employees. We are committed to ensuring equal pay between women and men for equal work, and equality in all contractual terms and benefits.
The below information is based on our snapshot date of 5th April 2024.
Our headline pay gap is 8.48% based on the median and -1.82% based on the mean. The median of 8.48% is reflective of the sector insofar as a large proportion of our team works in hotel housekeeping, which, sector-wide, has a higher prevalence of females. Alongside that, we have a significant number of chefs and property development employees who, in line with UK-wide averages for those sectors, have higher basic pay and are largely comprised of males. We are encouraged by the mean of -1.82%, implying a very small difference, which is unusual for the sector and demonstrates that our recruitment and review processes are working well. We are also encouraged to see that our Top and Fourth Quartiles are in line with our overall company gender balance.
In line with our overall approach to remuneration, a high percentage of our workforce receive a bonus. The results are similar across male and female team members, with a slightly higher proportion of females receiving a bonus.
To unpack our median bonus gap of 39.73%, we considered possible roles where there is a heavy, sector-wide tendency to be more male or female. Our kitchen teams are predominantly male and our housekeeping teams are predominantly female – this is in line with industry norms. These two teams have very different pay structures, with bonus pay making up a much smaller proportion of the housekeeping team member’s package. When these outliers were removed from our data, our adjusted median bonus gap is -29.70%, showing that our female employees outside of these roles are achieving a higher bonus level.
I can confirm our data is accurate and has been calculated according to the requirements and methodology set out in the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties and Public Authorities) Regulations 2017.
