With the launch of our new collaborative workspace Square Works now well underway, we thought we’d take a look back at the residents of our pioneer office space, Studio 31, which has been a well-respected spot on Berkeley Square for over 10 years and remind you of just how successful they have become during their time using this space.

One of our resident Studio 31 tenants, Evan Dawson, is a prime example of this. Evan is known for writing music for TV and film projects, including the theme music for BBC2’s Only Connect quiz, which is performed by a string quartet. He focuses on a particular specialism in writing music that is performed by live musicians, rather than all being computer generated.

Evan also leads the charity Live Music Now, which trains and supports hundreds of professional musicians to work in care homes, hospitals and special schools each year. Live Music Now was a Finalist in the Royal Society of Public Health Awards last year, for the second year in a row, in recognition of their work with musicians in care homes, hospitals, special schools and communities throughout the UK.

Evan is also recognized for his photography skills. For the past year, he has been a “photographer in residence” at St George’s, an acoustically renowned concert hall, and former Georgian Church. He told us that he is picking up other bits and pieces through this, and through the Bristol music scene, and continuing to develop his repertoire in the photography sphere.

Throughout his progression during his time at Studio 31, Evan says that he enjoys the buzz of being around so many other creative people, as he often spends a lot of time at his desk and keyboard, and thinks that many composers and arts managers find their work very isolating. He also expressed his fondness of the location of the studio, near Park St and Brandon Hill, which he says is really uplifting.

Soon to be following on from the success of Evan, will be the residents of our unique and innovative Square Works, opening in June 2019, also in Berkeley Square!
