Here at Quarter we take pride in our Graduate Scheme and our fantastic brigade of Graduate Trainee Hotel and Events Managers. Our graduate scheme works on a rotational basis – every seven weeks you move on to conquer another part of the company. This could be working on a busy hotel reception, or it could be working in head office, gaining experience in marketing, revenue and website management, HR, accounts and much more! Or you could be working with one of our events managers on everything from weddings to conferences from the planning stages all the way through to ensuring the day itself runs smoothly. Our graduates also play a key role in organising and running our annual philosophy and music festival, HowTheLightGetsIn. In short, there is always something new to learn, new people to meet, and a fresh and rewarding challenge around every corner!
But what happens behind the scenes? What sort of a fine-toothed comb do we use to pick through and pinpoint the best of the best for our coveted scheme?
It all starts with a knockout application. Our philosophy is individuality so anything that makes the candidate stand out as a fun, interesting and unique person will be sure to catch our attention. But it’s not all about charisma and charm – our graduates are the crème de la crème when it comes to brains. Don’t have at least a 2:1 degree from a Russell Group university? Then I’m afraid you won’t cut the mustard with our brainy grads.
But how do we find such gems? Our graduate adverts can be found on all the top universities’ job boards and we also frequent the odd careers fair - most recently at the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter.
Ok, so you’ve met us at your local careers fair, hurried home to cast a starry eye over our graduate scheme literature, and you’ve just submitted a humdinger of an application – what next? Simply await your invite to one of our graduate recruitment days, and you could be a future Quarter superstar!
But don’t just take our word for it. And what do our most recent recruits have to say about life as a Quarter Graduate?
Jack – current Quarter Graduate: “What I most like about the grad scheme is being able to see how a business is run from the bottom to the very top. You get to meet loads of people and learn a lot about the hospitality industry. During recruitment there was more focus on the quirkier areas of my CV which was unique and showed that they valued my character.”
Thanks, Jack!
Sophie - Assistant Manager at the Rodney Hotel and recent Graduate: “One of the things I think is really unique to the scheme is the company do really value your ideas and skills right from the outset and do take consideration to ensure there are regular review processes to make sure you are getting what you want out of the scheme. I have also just loved the variety of experiences on the scheme- from working on reception to helping plan and run events including a massive New Years party, wine and beer training, and working at a festival.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves, Sophie!
