Quarter is passionate about giving young people the opportunities and experience they need to be able to find their way in every area of the hotels business.
My name is Honor and I was lucky enough to become a Marketing Intern at Quarter in January 2018. Although the time has come for me to leave, being part of the marketing team and getting an insight into how businesses work has been invaluable, plus office life here is great! My main responsibilities include writing blogs, sending mailouts, making social media posts and keeping up with events going on throughout the company. I usually work 2 days a week and I love that every day is different and brings its own challenges!
8:55am
Arrive at work and set up at my desk. I usually try and arrive a few minutes early as this gives me a chance to check my diary for the day, catch up on emails and it means I can get myself a coffee so I’m ready for the day!
9:00am
Marketing meeting. This usually happens once a week and involves all the managers on the marketing team. Here we discuss all areas of marketing in the company and set up plans for what needs to be done that week. I’ve always been given to opportunity to speak up about anything I want to discuss and I’ve even been able to contribute some wisdom on the social media side of things.
10:00am
Blog writing. This has to be one of my favourite jobs of the day! I’m often given a topic (this can range from what’s on in Bristol, a particular festival or even top breakfast spots!) and then I do my own research for what will go into the blog. Being given the freedom and responsibility to write creatively and honestly has been a great experience and my Bristol knowledge has definitely got better because of it!
11:30am
Mailouts. I’m heavily involved in creating the newsletters for the different areas of the company (Clifton Hotels, Clifton Short Lets, Air 360 and Quarter!) and I really enjoy choosing what will go into them. I was given the task of re-designing the newsletter for Clifton Short Lets last month – this was really exciting as I knew that something I had created would be sent out to a whole mailing list containing 1000s of people, quite a big job! Being able to work independently, though, has been amazing and if I’ve ever had a problem everyone is always happy to help!
1:00pm
Lunch! I usually pop round the corner to my favourite lunch spot, Sandwich Sandwich! They do a whole range of sandwiches (the obvious), salads, jacket potatoes and cake! If you don’t know where to lunch, I would highly recommend it.
2:00pm
Odd jobs. One the best things about working at Quarter is the range of things I’m able to get involved with. During my time here I’ve been part of big project meetings, helping with HowTheLightGetsIn Festival yurt bookings, awards applications and even updating the Quarter website! Getting the opportunity to try out all of these things has been fantastic experience in getting to know which aspects of the job I love and the things that I’m not so into. Plus I get to work with lovely people from all over the office which is great!
3:30pm
Scheduling social media posts. Scheduling social media is a lot of fun and being responsible for so many channels for different types of customers is challenging. However, it gives me the chance to be creative and also think logically about posts – this involves looking up various events, hashtags and finding and taking great photos of Clifton!
5:00pm
Head home!
Being an Intern at Quarter has been a really amazing experience. Being around such enthusiastic and hard working people has given me a whole new perspective on social media and marketing and I can’t wait to use what I’ve learned in the future!
