Quarter is an independent hospitality group based in Clifton, Bristol. Comprising hotels, restaurants, short lets, Airbnb management and Bristol’s best co-working space (Bristol Property Awards 2022), we are an exciting and expanding company that is committed to championing the best of Bristol! We are currently recruiting for a Project and Development Lead within the company.

This is a varied position that does not come up very often! Reporting to the Hotels and Development Director, Natasha Hayes, you will have an opportunity to help steer the success and growth of the company. You will be managing the Design and Purchasing Lead and will be working closely with other Quarter teams ensure our projects are delivered on time and to the required standard.

Key details for the Project and Development Lead role:

  • The working pattern for this role can be flexible - we are, ideally, looking for either:
           - Full time – 40 hours per week worked over 5 days (Monday – Friday)
           - Part time – 30 to 32 hours per week worked over 4 or 5 days (weekdays only)
           - Hybrid – with up to 40% of your working week worked from home and 'in office' time will be based in
             Clifton, Bristol
  • Salary of between £26,000 and £31,000 per annum (range will be pro-rated for part time hours) dependent on experience
  • Annual performance based bonus of up to £4,000 (will be pro-rated for part time hours)
  • Management of a team of two

Key skills and requirements for the Project and Development Lead role:

We are looking for an all-rounder who has hospitality experience - be in a restaurant, hotel or other environment! Previous project management experience may be helpful but no project management qualifications are required.

  • Enthusiasm and resilience: You are motivated to help Quarter go from strength to strength – not every project will be easy, you’ll be someone who loves a challenge and can keep a cool head when the pressure is on!
  • Analytical: You’ll have a strength suggesting pathways for improvement with clear data to back up your thoughts
  • Problem solving: You’ll be good at getting to the root of issues and be able to clearly communicate how to move forward
  • Communication: You’ll be able to convey your thoughts succinctly and confidently
  • Variety: You’ll be comfortable with juggling different projects and priorities
  • Software: Knowledge of or prior experience with Microsoft Project would be advantageous

What can we offer you?

  • A fun but productive work place – our teams work collaboratively to achieve company goals
  • Excellent progression opportunities
  • Internal and external training – we’ll work with you to make sure you have the skills and resources to be successful in this role
  • Company discounts: 20%-50% off food and drink in our restaurants and family and friends discounts in our hotels
  • Regular company socials to say thank you to the teams!
  • A cycle to work scheme and discounted gym membership at Anytime Fitness
  • 28 days’ holiday per annum including Bank Holidays (pro-rated for part time work)

What will you be doing as Project and Development Lead?

This is a varied role – with projects varying in size, scope and delivery time! Key responsibilities will be:

  • Overseeing allocated projects – this includes completing and maintaining project documents, and chairing meetings
  • Liaising with team members and managers involved to ensure projects are delivered within set timeframes and budgets
  • Working alongside the Hotels and Development Director to develop new revenue streams and expand the ones we do have
  • Supporting unit managers in the proposal and implementation of projects that will improve their unit’s performance
  • Project managing the yurt, camping and parking fields at HowTheLightGetsIn Hay alongside Group Hotels Operations Manager – taking the lead on supplier relations and managing the team onsite. (Please note this part of this role will involve being away for Bristol in Hay-On-Wye for approximately two-three weeks over the late May Bank Holiday each year - you will get rest days in this time where you could return home!).

Examples of recent projects overseen by this position are:

  • The Berkeley Square Hotel refurbishment project – liaising with the Design and Purchasing Lead, the hotel manager and property development team to ensure that refurbished rooms have the right look and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • The Washington uplift – working with the hotel manager and Design and Purchasing Lead to identify how a limited budget per room should be spent to deliver the greatest return on investment.
  • Electric car charging points – establishing the most cost effective way to install electric car charging points at our hotels – including what the power requirements are and how we would charge the guest.
  • Working with the Hotels and Development Director to analyse possible uses for a new property in the Quarter portfolio.
